Community Shelter Services is always looking for ways to improve safety for those it serves. Last fall, funding was secured for a complete overhaul of the outdated fire alarm system and Fireline Group was contracted to complete work on the Columbus Building. Columbus Building houses the Emergency Shelter, administrative offices, and Columbus Apartments.
The new system recommended for the Columbus Building to replace the old Zone System is an Addressable System. Every device (smoke detector, heat detector, horn-strobe unit) in an Addressable System has its own address at the panel. This is extremely helpful in finding the fire, or a damaged detector and is time saver for the people in the building and also the service company and the fire department because the source of the alarm is incredibly specific.
Funding for this project was provided through grants from the National Fuel Foundation, ECGRA, and Erie County.
