Permanent Housing
Homeward Bound Permanent Housing Program offers an option for qualified low-income individuals and families. CSS is seeing larger families as well as more single individuals presenting with greater disabilities seeking shelter. People are staying at our shelter longer due to these disabilities and the barriers that they face. Families need larger apartments to accommodate children. CSS employs a housing-first approach that quickly and successfully connects people in need to permanent housing without preconditions and barriers to entry. We are working with many community partners to refurbish donated homes.
Thanks to a grant from the Erie Community Foundation and countless volunteer service hours of labor contributed from church, school, employee, and civic and social groups, these houses are reborn into homes. Community Shelter Services extends our heartfelt thanks to Wabtec (GE Service) volunteers, GRI/RISE Industries, Behrend Engineers Without Borders, Mercyhurst Alumni and Student Civic Engagement, Local Christian Benefit Association, ServeErie, and many more.
